[Backdated to Dec 31st]

Normally, I feel kind of wistful on New Year's Eve, but this year I feel mostly hopeful. That seems a little strange after how odd this year has been.

My life doesn't feel anything like it did this time last year but I find myself looking forward to the challenges and changes than ever before. Since coming here I've met some great people and I'm looking forward to getting to know them better, some more than others.

[Private] -- It's been quite a first Christmas, that's for sure. Despite Dagny being too young - she's not even ten days old, yet! - to know any better, she was showered with gifts: soft things my sister had knitted, family heirlooms from Mum and Dad, books from Will's childhood that he brought over with him. You'd think they had packed up all of Pucey Manor in England and all of their home in the Islands when they came over. But they all seemed happy today, happy here, and that's really all I can ask... I ran into Ginny Weasley last night. Stopped by the Pub to have a drink and relax among non-baby-peoples, and then she was sitting not far from me at the bar, all of a sudden. Something about seeing her, puts me at ease. When I'm worried about my family or think back to the day that Dagny was born... I haven't known her long but she's been an incredible friend. I suppose this is mostly because... Well, outside of family, I never really had close friends. I knew my housemates and my teammates, I was friendly with them, I suppose, as friendly as I ever got, I'd say, but not friends with them. They weren't people I would reach out to or rely on. And it certainly doesn't hurt that this kind, smart, open witch is an absolute knockout. Alright, so I haven't been able to stop thinking of her, and on top of all the other differences in life this year, that one might be the most perplexing.

I can safely say that I've never had a Christmas quite like this before. I've tried charming icicles that don't melt and that sort of thing, but it's not the same. Even Christmas music seems odd here! But I'm still off to Two for a Christmas dinner sort of thing with my parents and a few hours of relaxation before I do a security patrol this evening.

At approximately 11:45 pm last night, an unknown male came through the portal and accosted Miss Granger before absconding into the jungle. He is between 6' and 6'3" in height, with shoulder-length dark brown or black hair, with a muscular build.

This person should be considered dangerous. Any possible sitings should be reported to the Command Center of your settlement immediately. Under no circumstances should you approach this person.

Communication with the Ministry of Magic indicates that no one entered the portal on their side.

For the foreseeable, all entry and exit via the settlement gates will be on datapad verification only and a team of security personnel will be posted at the portal clearing around the clock.

Apparently some of the leaves here not only taste good when used to brew tea but work wonders on headaches. Though I am not sure of the names of these plants yet as I am still learning a lot of the local flora. I let Bill taste these concoctions first naturally as most of them tend to be a bit bitter.
