My house still smells like food gone round the bend. I've tried every charm I know, too. Anyone know if we have some of that baking soda or an alternative around? Can't even close my ruddy windows if I want to breath.

I don't know about baking soda, other than what people may have brought along themselves, but I know that white vinegar is easily available and that if you leave a bowl of that sitting in the room for about 24 hours, it'll take away a lot of the smells. Also, after you've washed the insides of your fridge, wipe it down with a damp cloth soaked in vinegar.

Leftover coffee grounds can also help eliminate the odors, as can rubbing a vanilla bean against the lightbulbs in the room you want to re-fragrate.

And, if all else fails - or you're in the mood for company - I have a small army of sweet smelling plants that can cover up just about any foul smell.

Fair point, Mr. Black. Instead of covering up the odors while the vinegar works it wonders, then, maybe you'd like to join me somewhere?

I'm not eager to go back there just yet, either.

So, how about a civilized place, with tables and chairs - table cloth is optional - where we won't have to catch or cook our own food, and where they serve chilled beverages? Brunch, lunch or dinner on... Friday?
