I don't know about baking soda, other than what people may have brought along themselves, but I know that white vinegar is easily available and that if you leave a bowl of that sitting in the room for about 24 hours, it'll take away a lot of the smells. Also, after you've washed the insides of your fridge, wipe it down with a damp cloth soaked in vinegar.
Leftover coffee grounds can also help eliminate the odors, as can rubbing a vanilla bean against the lightbulbs in the room you want to re-fragrate.
And, if all else fails - or you're in the mood for company - I have a small army of sweet smelling plants that can cover up just about any foul smell.
