Characters: Lily, Remus, James, Harry(?), Lisa (?), others
Setting: The World's End Pub
Content: Gen
Status: Open: Public

Lily checked her watch after James' last message and grabbed a quick shower before she headed over to the pub. As she got dressed in jeans and top, she thought about how this would be the first time all of them got together - her, James, Sirius, and Remus - since they all arrived. Not to mention throwing in Harry. What a time this would be.

Hurriedly, although she was still a few minutes early for the time she wanted to leave, she finished getting ready (deciding to leave her hair down) and left. Knowing it would take a bit longer than normal to get there, she arrived a full fifteen minutes early. Better to be fashionably early. At least that's what she told herself.

Remus arrived at the pub a few minutes before Lily had so he took the honors of finding them a large enough table (he ended up moving some together). He'd went ahead and ordered a couple pitchers of the local brew to start the night off with a bang.

Upon seeing his friend, he stood and gave her a hug. "You'll have to forgive me if I get rowdy tonight."

Lily rolled her eyes. "You're tame compared to James and Sirius. If Sirius makes it."

Oh Godric, this whole not being able to use magic thing was bringing back memories of the safe house and the Dursleys. And while they weren't exactly unpleasant memories, they weren't the type to make Hestia happy and cheerful. While her first instinct was to go ask Kingsley if she could come over, she felt like she had been taking advantage of that one too many times, heading out someplace where she could be distracted from her thoughts sounded like the next best idea.

So it was with some relief that she saw James' entry stating that there was going to be a gathering at the World's End pub. Slipping on jeans, a t-shirt, and sandals and deciding at the last minute to include a pair of pajamas in her bag (if her mood didn't improve or she didn't feel like heading home, she'd just sneak into Kingsley's house and spend the night), Hestia made the walk over.

Stepping in, she saw what she thought to be James sitting at a table. Not feeling exactly comfortable joining their group (Order membership notwithstanding), she made her way to the bar and debated what to order. Deciding on crisps and a pint, she waited for Lisa or Paul.

Adrian looked up from his datapad, sitting at the end of the bar, to see a familiar face sitting not far from him. Smiling he set his datapad down, grabbed his pint, and scooted down to the seat next to her. "Ms Jones, good to see you again," he put out a hand in greeting. "Though I must admit, a part of me prefers to running into you on the beach," he smiled over his cup.

"Is it presumptuous to join?" He asked after he'd had a sip and set it back down.

At Adrian's speaking, Hestia felt an actual smile break upon her face. "Speaking of the beach, didn't we have the discussion that it's Hestia, not this 'Ms. Jones' thing?" she said, before shaking his hand. At his mentioning preferring to see her at the beach, she laughed. "I can assure you that the preference is mutual."

"Feel free," Hestia responded with a wave of her hand. "How have you been?" At that moment, Lisa came by with a smile and Hestia put in her order of crisps and a pint. Lisa said that it would be coming up momentarily.

Adrian grinned at her chiding, "Of course, old habits and all, my mother would box my ears for calling someone the family isn't acquainted with by their first name," it seemed weird to have pureblood traditions - well, old fashioned, more than anything - around here.

"We'll have to do another day out there sometime, when things calm down," he whirled a finger around as if that explained what he meant.

"I've been alright, luckily I'm not much with a wand as it is, much prefer potions, and my current work hasn't been affected, so I'm lucky I'd say. And you?"

"I'm acquainted with you, so that should count for something with your mother, right? But then again, I don't want you getting your ears boxed." It was polite to refer to her as the formal address, but things were different around here. Especially with the fall of Voldemort, the pureblood ways of doing certain things were disappearing - not that that was a bad thing.

"We'll have to invite Cecilia again," she said as her way of agreement. "I had fun."

"It's been odd not being magic to do magic," Hestia replied. "It was especially odd in the med center today. I keep going for my wand for spell work and then I realize I can't do that and then I have to go find a doctor to tell me the Muggle way of doing it." Not voluntarily performing magic was different than not being able to do at all. But at least she had some experience. She just hated working today without it. It really proved to her that she would have to shore up on Muggle procedures.

Adrian laughed and rolled his eyes a little bit, in jest, "I'm not sure my mom would agree that my knowing something makes it worthy. My dad and I are potionsmasters, weirdos in her mind, she's pretty much spent her whole life a pureblood wife or a pureblood wife in training. She never bought into any of the... politics of it," he put that part lightly, not wanting to bring up any sore subjects, "but she did have a field day when the new tellys came through. She found it absolutely hilarious and was immediately addicted to the 'newness' of it." He shook his head, "I had to explain to her many times that tellys have been a thing for... well, forever," he laughed out loud this time.

"Me, too," he said sincerely, "And yes we will. She's a genius herbologist, you know, makes me never want to have to do it myself again, I can just call her and I know it'll be better than anything I can do."

"Don't you all have to learn the muggle healing ways here, too?" Adrian thought of Ginny when she passed her exams and the flowers he'd sent her. Seeing her across the room, sitting with a group of friends, still panged a bit, if he were being honest with himself.

Hestia shared a chuckle in return. "If it helps, if I see her I will tell her that I told you to call me by my first name and threatened to turn your hair pink or toss you in the ocean if you didn't." Simple, harmless threats that would result in a good laugh at the end for the both of them. Not that she would end her...friendship as it were with him if she found out that he did follow the politics of the pure blooded crazy movement.

"You're one of my favorite potionsmakers," she replied. "I know you're not going to add stewed mandrake when you meant to add scarab beetle for a skele-gro potion. And yes, that has happened to me. Not personally, but as a Healer. Luckily, we were able to catch it before anything too serious happened to the patient and give the proper dosage of the potions to counteract and then heal."

"All Healers have to at least go through a basic course of Muggle medicine, but almost every Healer's going through advanced courses of Muggle medicine due to the fact that some of the Muggles don't trust the magical way of healing them." Realizing that she was quickly approaching her soapbox of medicine, she stopped talking on that subject. "With that glowing review, she'll be my first contact when I need an herbologist and she's on duty."

Adrian chuckled, "Oh darling, if you told my mum you'd turn my hair pink, she'd roll out the red carpet for anything you wanted."

He perked up with slight pride when she complimented his work. "I certainly wouldn't use sub-par ingredients, it's one of the reasons I work freelance with the hospitals, I prefer to do my own digging, shopping, and ordering." He shook his head, most people found his habits in potions off putting. He supposed Jones was a bit of a perfectionist as well, though.

"Oh, yes, she's one of the best. One of the only ones I've done joint research with, and she's the lovely one we have to thank for local versions of coffee." He quirked his eyebrows, "My favorite thing in this world or any other. Can I buy you a drink?"

"In that case, I may have to change your hair pink," Hestia grinned and winked at him. "Especially if it gets me the red carpet treatment with your mum. Never know when that's going to come in handy."

"Or mess up ingredients that a.) don't even look like the other or b.) put them in the wrong potion. Because I'm certain that you already know that stewed mandrake does not go into a skele-gro potion." Perfection in certain things, especially when it involved life-or-death situations was a thing of necessity. People tended to frown when patients died from unnecessary (medical) errors.

"Merlin bless her for that at least." At Adrian's offering to buy her a drink, Hestia looked down the bar for Lisa. "I ordered some crisps and a pint from Lisa, but she looks busy. When she comes by this way again, I'll remind her. Maybe the next one? Thanks though."

"A woman without her order? Well then, mother would never forgive me." He joked with a glint in his eye and stood. Catching sight of Lisa's head at the other end of the bar, Adrian called to her and gave her a sympathetic look, "Sorry, we know you're slammed tonight, if it'd help any I'd offer to come behind the bar, but I'm pretty useless," Lisa laughed at him and nodded toward Hestia.

"I'll grab your order, sorry it got lost in the shuffle," she shook her head and ran to get it.

Bringing it bad, Adrian nodded with a smile her way and the petite witch grabbed him another pint before rushing off to a table in the front.

"A lady asks, and a Pucey gives." He explained with a smile, sitting back down. "And yes, the next round is definitely on me."

"Oh, I'm liking your mother the more I hear about her!" Hestia replied grinning at him. This definitely had been a good idea. It kept her thoughts from doing a downwards spiral and there had been enough of that last week.

"It's fine, don't worry about it," Hestia told Lisa. "I know you're slammed because we magical folk are idiotic prats who don't know what to do without it. Who then decide to go to the pub and become more of an idiotic prat after a few pints."

Hestia opened her bag and popped a crisp in her mouth before responding to Adrian. "I appreciate it, thank you." Taking a swig of her pint, she continued. "Round after that is on me."

"A woman who offers to buy a round, too?" Adrian widened his eyes in faux shock. "My goodness, my mother would love you completely. She'd probably try to marry you into the family immediately, and when I refused purely on professional and friendship grounds, she'd introduce you to my brother in law and my father."

Adrian took another drink of his local stout and grinned about the room. Ginny was still sitting with friends, they all seemed to be having a very good time, but it panged less. He found himself having fun with Hestia, a potential friend, and unlike when he befriended Ginny, a real friend in this new world that he wasn't nearly falling for. It was a nice, new sensation.

Hestia couldn't help herself. She started laughing at him. "Adrian, I like you and all, but I think the guy I'm seeing may have an issue or two with that. Being introduced to your family would be a very nice honor though," she stated still chuckling. "Thank you for being a chivalrous gentleman. I'll tell your mother that she and your father raised up a good man."

"Other than the lack of magic, how have you been doing?" She asked and took a long drink from her glass and popped another crisp in her mouth. "Feel free to take one if you want one," she gestured to the bag.

"Oh, he and I both, no offense," Adrian laughed along with her, in the back of his mind thinking of the witch that got away.

"I'm pretty sure that, though, would be the highest compliment you could give my parents. And my older sister, who takes credit."

"Doing alright, I've offered to help Lisa start a public vegetable garden here," he indicated just outside the front door with a free hand, "we're going to put it just beside the patio, you know?" He smiled and took one of her chips, popping it into his mouth with a grin.

"I'm glad that we got that all straightened out," Hestia said with a smirk. "He'd win in a duel if it came to that." She absentmindedly scratched the tip of her nose and placed her hand back down on the bar. "You do realize that this means that you have to introduce me to them; the sooner being the better, yes?"

"A public garden? Like one that the public can come pick vegetables from for their own use or just for the public to admire and Lisa can use them in the food here?"
