It was so typical! Just when she had found a man who she wanted to keep happy, to impress and who in return wanted to make her happy, she had been given shifts that didn’t fit into his work schedule. Working an evening shift meant that Alicia couldn’t spend the evening with Kingsley as she had wanted to, and as luck would have it, said evening shift had gone longer than usual, because several other Healers had failed to show up and Alicia couldn’t leave the poor sod who had cracked his head open when he had tried to prove his love to some woman by scaling the guard tower… blindfolded. When she was done, Alicia headed directly to the locker-room, disposing of her dirty scrubs, before she had stepped under the warm spray of the shower to wash off the entirely too long shift and go back to Kingsley.

The shower worked wonders. The minute the warm water hit her, it felt as if a cloud was lifting from her mind. A sense of refreshment began to take over, however, with that refreshment also came a whole bout of confusion. Her desperate need to be close to Kingsley faded almost immediately, only to be replaced by a deeper and more real feeling of joy that someone remarkable was in her life. Not Kingsley, but Viktor. And then came the shame. How could she have dismissed someone she loved as dearly as Viktor this easily? Viktor was what her father would have called ‘the other half of her orange’, where ordinary people would have called him her soulmate.

As if in a daze, she shut off the water and hastily dried off, just enough to keep from soaking her clothes, and pulled her wet hair up into a sloppy bun. She got her datapad, and as she opened it to see that there was a message for her, she noticed the nakedness of her left ringfinger.

She had taken off her ring!

Closing her eyes, she thought back to when she last remembered seeing it. That would have been… Monday. Monday when she had started work, and had gone to see Kingsley for his annual exam. Hoping that she was right, she reached into her locker, and there, on the top shelf, was the ring. More than anything she wanted to put it back on, but how could she after the way she had behaved all week? Good Godric, it was only a week since she had accepted Viktor’s proposal, and then a few days later, she had spent the week trying to figure out how to best make the rest of his life perfect… for Kingsley Shacklebolt.

Alicia swallowed down, and turned on her datapad. Perhaps, if she was lucky, it was Viktor, and that would give her a point to start off from, in figuring out where to go from here. Because one thing was clear as day to her at this point: she did not deserve a man as good as Viktor.

Her eyebrows drew together as she read the message. A love potion? They had all been potioned? Well, that explained a great deal, but it didn’t excuse the fact that she had turned her back on her engagement with Viktor.

Vitkor!

She had to see him, and she had to see him now. She had been without him since Monday, and she could feel the longing inside her to be with him again, though not the same longing she had felt to be with Kingsley just minutes ago. Shoving the ring in her pocket, she pulled a sweater over her head and filled a bottle of water, just in case he had been potioned too and hadn’t had the distributed antidote, before she Apparated directly to his house.

For a moment she stood outside the door, her hand raised to knock. With a sigh, she lowered it, about to turn the doorhandle to let herself in, like she used to. But what if Viktor had been potioned and he had someone in there with him? She couldn’t blame him, but she wasn’t certain she could bear actually witnessing him with another woman, or man for that matter. Instead, she raised her hand again, knocking firmly, hoping that what they had hadn’t been ruined completely by this, while she kept the bottle of water held out in front of her.
