"Independent, unpredictable, can't be tamed," Charlie ticked off the list out loud. "Kneazles eat mice, birds, and fish. I don't meant to say dragons are related to them, only that they exhibit many of the same qualities. Crups, on the other hand, are easily domesticated and trainable."

Charlie glanced down at Alicia, a warm smile curling his lips. This wasn't the first time he'd given a tour that included the dragons but it was far more enjoyable to do it one-on-one with Alicia. She was intelligent and thoughtful, her reactions honest and spontaneous. It was a welcome change from the people who tried to put on a show of being brave and simply came across as crass. "It's nice to show Dmitri off to someone who really appreciates him," Charlie said.

Holding out his hand, Charlie offered to help Alicia over the uneven terrain as they began descending on the far side of the mountain range into the unicorn and threstal area. He pointed out the small markers on the trees flanking them. "I don't expect we'll see any of the young unicorns. They really only show themselves to children or virgins, no offense intended."
