He'd been on the neighboring continent for a week now, Sirius thought as he stood on the beach looking out at the ocean. In the distance, he could see a school of enormous dorsal fins, signalling the movement of the massive sharks that were - hopefully - migrating through the area. Whether or not they were was the realm of someone from the Ark, he mused. That wasn't his concern since there was nothing that could get him out onto the ocean with those monsters anyway. No, he didn't have to worry about that. Apparation was one of his talents, long distance apparation something that he had always excelled at and that had been why Kingsley had cornered him into doing the scouting.
It suited him. Sirius hated being cooped up, always had. Azkaban had been a nightmare to him on every level. He shook his head, pushing those memories away. He was free now and he was grateful that Kingsley had stood up for him in front of the Wizengamot, vouching for his character even while his own head was still spinning from the gap in years since his 'death' and then return. If it had been left to them, Sirius would have been condemned back to Azkaban, despite the evidence clearing him. They had succeeded in keeping his return quiet and saving face by using the Prophet to shape the situation in their favor.
Picking up his backpack, Sirius shouldered it as he began walking up the beach. The best apparation point he'd found in the last two months was only a half a kilometer away. It was also one of the safest locations. Whereas the Zealandia continent with the settlements had only small predators, this one - the one that would be Australia in their future - was teaming with all sizes of life. His pack was fully, however, and he knew that Kingsley preferred weekly check-ins so, at the apparation site, Sirius fixed the opposite shoreline in his mind and apparated.
It was a tiny apparation jump back to Settlement 1 from there and Sirius appeared just outside of the marketplace, meaning to pick up a few things for a decent dinner. He was absently picking up one of the 'potatoes' when another hand closed over his and he glanced to the side to find a witch there. "Go ahead," Sirius said, releasing the bulb and taking a step back. He was used to people avoiding him. "I'll get another."
