Characters: Demp & Lavender
Setting: The Market

Dempster hadn't done much in the way of shopping or cooking since arriving. Hell, even back in London he'd been a take-out sort of man. With so much to do at work and so many books to read - and legal articles to write, he thought fondly - there just wasn't time. His excuses wore thin here, though. Lisa gave him hell more and more for wasting his time off at the pub keeping her company (as much as they enjoyed each other's company, they both knew it to be true) and he could only pull so many double shifts before even his superiors would worry about him. It wasn't that he was avoiding anything, per se, just that he didn't tend to have anything better to do. Spending time with Lavender had begun to prove him wrong, though.
He'd begun to maybe think there was more to being here than work. More than security rounds and late nights and pub food. More to a social life than the local pub gal getting on your case and making you laugh. Maybe others can make him laugh. Lavender surely did, she even made him smile.
And so he'd had a morning off and instead of holing up in his house, he was standing at the entrance to the Market soaking up the sunshine and keeping an eye out for Lavender.

Besides, Lavender knew how much time he spent at the pub, so she was sure this would be quite an experience for him. The thought made her smile, especially when she spotted him lingering outside the market. Lavender gave a wave, hurrying her pace a little to join him. "Morning."

From the way you talk, it seems like I'd have to be to eat your cooking," she teased, walking with him inside where they were greeted with myriad sounds and smells, like all of Diagon Alley squashed into one building.

"This is pretty amazing. I've been here for months and pretty exclusively eaten at the pub, I stopped in a few times before they had the building set, when it was all tents, but at least then it was spread out." He cocked an eyebrow at an interesting looking table of local fruits. "I have no idea how Paul makes food just like from home. What's your favorite from around here?" He asked, looking back down to Lavender.

And the butcher is good for when I need to satisfy any red meat cravings." It had to be a little overwhelming to come here without really knowing what to expect. "I think it gets easier to cook things the way I used to once you've experimented a bit with new ingredients."

So they headed in that direction, with Dempster feeling very lost and very happy to let Lavender take the lead. "So what's your favorite to cook? Or to eat?" He asked, honestly curious about her likes and habits, wondering if he'd get a chance to learn them all.

Date: 2013-05-26 09:09 pm (UTC)"I'm a sucker for a good stew, but I bet having my own stool at the World's End proves that." He didn't bring up her comment about steak, wondering if her preference had anything to do with what had happened to her in the Battle of Hogwarts. But hadn't ever brought that up to her and he doubted her would unless she wanted to speak of it. Even after all this time, he had trouble speaking about his time as a prisoner during the war.
"So, we start with the fishmonger, what about good fruit, who's the best for really juicy fruits?" Dempster may be a red meat sort of man, but he was absolutely crazy for juicy berries and crisp sweet apples.
